Just let it go

This week, PureVolume is offering a free download of “Escape Artistry” by Kill Hannah, to promote the band’s latest album.

Wake Up the Sleepers is the Chicago band’s sixth album to date (it was released two weeks ago by Original Signal Recordings). The band was formed in 1994, by vocalist Mat Devine, and named for his ex-girlfriend. In spite of a continually changing line-up, Kill Hannah has made their way around the music biz: touring with indie favorites the Sounds and Dashboard Confessional, as well as opening for the All-American Rejects.

Kill Hannah

Quite frankly, at some points the song makes me laugh. The line repeated through most of the song (“we’ve got to get the fuck out of here”) just sounds silly as the song slows in tempo and the whole tune softens. Despite that, however,”Escape Artistry” a pretty solid release. Devine’s raspy vocals remind me of early Smashing Pumpkins – with a much quicker pulse. The tune is catchy, and serves as a great introduction to Kill Hannah’s electro-rock sound.
